Upton Sinclair
Upton Sinclair var en amerikansk författare, Muckraker och socialist. Född 1878 i Baltimore, Maryland, USA och dog 1968. Förädlarna var fattiga med aristokratbakgrund och Upton växte delvis upp med sina rika släktingar. Hans insikt i både överflödets och fattigdomens värld sägs ha bidragit till hans socialistiska övertygelse.
Han finansierade sina Collegestudier i New York genom att skriva artiklar och reportage till tidningar. Försörjde sig också senare på sitt skrivande. Skrev ofta med socialt patos och för att blottlägga samhällets svarta sidor.
Sinclair kandiderade i flera val både som socialist (senaten och repressentanthuset på 1920-talet) och demokrat (guvernör 1934). Sitt demokrat-haveri förklarar han senare som "The American People will take Socialism, but they won't take the label. I certainly proved it in the case of EPIC. Running on the Socialist ticket I got 60,000 votes, and running on the slogan to 'End Poverty in California' I got 879,000."
Kanske mest känd för sitt skildring av köttindustrin och kapitalismen i romanen Vildmarken.
